Liesbet Vandenplas and Maaike Cornelli are assisting the Institute for the Equality of Women and Men as well as the victim and the witness in a sex discrimination case. In a recent judgment, the European Court of Justice ruled in this case that the Belgian Gender Act violates European law with regard to the protection of witnesses of sex discrimination. The Belgian legislation on the protection of witnesses of discrimination therefore needs to be adapted. Liesbet Stevens, the Deputy Director of the Institute, elaborates on the policy proposals in this week’s edition of Knack.
