Thomas

Thomas is a leading adviser in energy and climate transition, with a particular focus on complex (renewable) energy projects. His practice covers the full spectrum of (renewable) energy technologies, including biomass, geothermal energy, district heating, onshore and offshore wind, solar, hydrogen, BESS and carbon capture.

Clients turn to Thomas for his ability to navigate the full complexity of energy projects — from drafting and negotiating intricate contractual frameworks to advising on legal structuring, market access, and regulatory compliance across Belgium's layered federal and regional regimes. He is equally at home in the courtroom, regularly acting as lead counsel in disputes involving energy contracts, market access, and infrastructure development.

Beyond his practice, Thomas is deeply engaged with the academic and professional community. He lectures at Ghent University, speaks frequently at sectoral conferences and podcasts, and contributes to the development of the field through authoritative publications. His 2024 co-authored chapter on the integration of district heating in real estate developments (Jaarboek Energierecht 2023, Intersentia) is widely regarded as a key reference in the field. His expertise is recognised by both Chambers and Partners and Legal500, which recommend him as one of the few go-to lawyers in energy law.
