Tom’s practice focuses on criminal law and criminal procedure in general, and white-collar crime and human rights law in particular. He regularly acts before Belgian courts at all levels, including the Court of Cassation, in criminal cases.
He has been a partner at Eubelius since 2015 and has been a member of the Brussels Bar since 2001.
Tom obtained a law degree at the University of Brussels (VUB) in 2001.
Tom was a member of the Commissie voor Bescherming van de Maatschappij / Commission de defense sociale which – until it ceased to exist in October 2016 – decided on appeals for the discharge of mentally ill detainees.
He lectures on criminal procedure law at the Police Academy (ad hoc) and on criminal law and criminal procedure law at the training school of the Nederlandse Orde van Advocaten in Brussels. He is a member of various commissions at the Orde van Vlaamse Balies and the Nederlandse Orde van Advocaten in Brussels concerning criminal law, money laundering and domiciliary visits/duty of professional confidentiality.
Tom is a regular speaker at conferences on criminal law, contributes to legal publications on this subject, and is a member of the editorial staff of Tijdschrift voor Strafrecht.
