Since joining Eubelius in September 2016, Michaël Verbeke has worked in the Public-Private Partnerships and Infrastructure team on some of the most prestigious projects in Belgium. On 1 January 2026, he was appointed counsel. For him, this step is not a break with the past, but the logical continuation of an extremely exciting journey, in which expertise, responsibility and mutual trust are key.

“I was fortunate enough to be able to work on real milestone projects from the very beginning of my career at Eubelius. I think that’s the best way to get familiar with both theory and practice quickly, hands-on. Those learning moments were a privilege, and I still reap the benefits of them every day.”

What does this promotion mean to you?

“For me, a promotion isn’t a caesura, where you have a ‘before’ and an ‘after’ and things fundamentally change. Rather, it’s a vote of confidence and a confirmation of the work I’ve already been doing. As counsel, I want to get out there even more, meeting people and training younger colleagues as they take their first professional steps. This is a way for me to give back to Eubelius, because Eubelius and my colleagues have also made that investment in me over the past few years.”

“For me, a promotion isn’t a caesura, it’s a vote of confidence and an encouragement to continue on the path I’m on.”

What trends are you currently seeing around you?

“We live in challenging times. Every major construction and infrastructure project faces complex problems such as permitting issues, climate change and the changing geopolitical context. How do you create sufficient public support for a socially relevant project? How do we prepare our infrastructure for more extreme climatological conditions? And how do we make our infrastructure more resilient? I find it fascinating to see, from my role as a lawyer, how these big social issues are reflected in day-to-day projects.”

What makes a tough workday a little easier for you?

“What I really appreciate about Eubelius is the sense of humour. A healthy dose of humour and self-deprecation is as important as oxygen here. The atmosphere and trust I feel here make me feel well supported in my professional growth. And I’m lucky to experience that support on the home front as well.”
