Catherine Van de Heyning
Catherine focuses on company and financial law and has additional expertise in cybercrime. She is also qualified to appear before the Court of Cassation (appeals) for criminal matters (since 2015).
She joined the Brussels bar in 2012, and has worked for Eubelius since 2016.
Catherine completed her law degree (2006) and a doctorate (2011) in law at the University of Antwerp, and obtained an LL.M. from University College London (2007). She gained additional expertise in the law of the International Criminal Court (NUI Galway) and international human rights lawyering (University of Oxford).
Catherine is a professor in fundamental rights law at the University of Antwerp and also affiliated with the VUB as a visiting professor in criminal law and procedure.
She is on the editorial team of Tijdschrift voor Strafrecht (criminal law journal), Tijdschrift voor Mensenrechten (human rights journal) and RABG (criminal law journal). In addition, she is part of the Legal Expert Advisory Team, as Belgian expert, for the international NGO Fair Trials.
She is the author of several international and national publications concerning the protection of the rights of defense.
